Born in 1993 in Douarnenez, France, Yuna Denis explores painting through its haptic and emotional qualities. Her quest for heightened sensitivity takes shape in the experimentation she develops in each of her works. The artist questions the meaning of contemplation and plays with the emergence of forms, colors, and the multiple layers that make up her compositions.
The term “layers” refers both to the mineral structure of the Earth and to the episodes that shape history. Her painting style seeks to reveal the successive metamorphoses that constitute her work. Her practice therefore refers to an open space, where personal, memorial, historical, and collective narratives intersect.
After completing a Master's degree in Textiles in Nantes, Yuna Denis recently completed a second Master's degree in Painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where she was able to broaden her approach to different media, notably integrating sculpture into her practice.
